Why We Fast
Al-Baqara (The Cow):
2:183 O You who have attained to faith! fasting is ordained
for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you
might remain conscious of God.

Message from MAS Bay Area President
Assalamu alaikum Brothers and Sisters of the San Francisco Bay
Area.
I ask Allah to find you in the best and rising state of faith
and piety in this blessed month of Ramadan. Whenever this
month comes around a believer feels like he has come home.
Certainly, for anyone who has experienced Ramadan, the longing
for it when the year rolls around increases.
Who has not found tranquility and internal peace in Ramadan?
Who has not tasted the sweetness of breaking the fast with an
assured du'a to Allah? Who has not found the strength to stand
in prayers during Taraweeh buoyed by longing for Allah's
forgiveness and the companionship of his believing brethren?
Who has not been captivated by the reading of the Quran in
this month alone and in depth of the night in the last ten
days? Who has not raised his hands to Allah to ask for
forgiveness, mercy and salvation from the Hellfire? more...

Ramadan “The market for the people of faith”
Imam Suhaib Webb - Muslim American Society Bay Area Chapter
We praise Allah and we seek His blessings and peace upon the
Prophet, his family, companions and those who follow him.
We gather here tonight to remember Allah and increase our
faith. What a blessing! Tonight is Saturday and I’m sure there
are a lot of other places we could be. It is a sign that there
is a lot of good in our young brothers and sisters that they
fought their nuffs, prayed tarawih and are here to listen to
this talk. A talk and gathering that is surrounded by the
malaikah. I’m very proud of you all and pray that Allah will
forgive you and shower you with His blessings and I want to
welcome you.”Let’s give a few moments to work on our faith.”
This was the statement of the Companions [may Allah be pleased
with them]. Thus, following in their footsteps lets “Give a
few moments for our faith.”

Ramadan Checkpoint
A khutbah by Dr. Hisham Abdallah
Although Ramadan is more than half over, there's still time.
We invite you to listen to Dr. Hisham Abdallah's khutbah
on preparing for Ramadan and reflect on what you've
accomplished in this blessed month and what you haven't. Then
plan to kick it in high gear for the rest of the month. May
Allah grant us forgiveness, mercy, and freedom from the
Hellfire this Ramadan. Ameen.

Finding Islam: The Road Less Traveled
By Sumayyah Meehan
I recall the day perfectly. It was the first week of December
1992. I was a sophomore in college and had just wrapped up my
mid-term exams. I was excited that Christmas vacation would
start in a couple of days. I had just enough time to pack up
my belongings for the winter break and wrap a few gifts that I
had bought for my roommate.
As I put the last bow on the gifts, I just froze as a thought
entered my head. And that thought was in the form of a
question: If God is good, then how could He allow His only son
Jesus to be crucified?
This single question opened the floodgates for me. It
literally took my breath away. I had to lie down on my bed to
just breathe and collect my thoughts, which I was afraid, were
blasphemous. I went down a virtual checklist of just how much
I knew about Christianity and asked myself whether or not I
really believed what I knew. What I learned is that I did not
know much about my religion, and what I did know I questioned.
