Planting
Narrated Anas bin Malik:

The Prophet said, "If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it, he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity."

The Changing of a Religious Edict According to Time and Place: Part One
Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi
Translated and Abridged by Imam Suhaib Webb - Muslim American Society Bay Area Chapter

Modern knowledge and developments provided people of this era with astonishing capabilities unknown to those who preceded them. This can be traced back to the following, knowledge based, revolutions:

* Electronic revolution
* Biological revolution
* Space exploration
* Nuclear revolution
* Electronic revolution
* Information revolution
* Communications revolution

These discoveries provided people with means unknown to those before them and have an effect on rulings and religious edicts.

Earth Day: Healing Our Planet
MAS Service Corps Advisory

So you think our country is polluted today? You should have been around back in 1970 when the streets of cities like Cleveland were like a minefield. Just taking a stroll meant dodging piles of (there’s really no way to be delicate about this) doggy doo doo, and Lake Erie WAS ON FIRE!

Back then, people didn’t really understand the implications of tossing a candy wrapper or soda can out the car window (and no, it was NOT providing a homeless guy with income from the empty). Nor did they realize that those plastic bags blowing around might actually pose a threat to wildlife!

There is no hyperbole in saying that in many cities the air was so black and thick that just taking one breath caused a person to choke, and water turned so slimy and green from chemicals and other pollutants that you could nearly walk across it!

Khalid ibn Al-Waleed: The Sword of Allah Idris Tawfiq

Jihad is such a misunderstood word. There are two types of jihad, and both meanings come from the Arabic root word, jahada, which means to exert one's utmost efforts. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told Muslims that the greater jihad is the daily struggle of each Muslim to be a good person.

Contrary to what the TV would have us believe, it has nothing to do with blowing yourself up or blowing anyone else up. Muslims are called upon to struggle against their own faults and weaknesses.

It might be much easy to march down a street, throwing stones, and shouting against tyranny and oppression, but it is much more difficult to overcome our own weaknesses. This is the greater jihad.

The lesser jihad, according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is to fight in the cause of Allah. This, too, is grossly misunderstood and wrongly portrayed on our TV screens. Fighting in the cause of God has had a very bad press, where Muslims are concerned. more...

Spring Cleaning
Author Unknown

Spring cleaning is a chance to redefine yourself. Spring cleaning isn’t just about sorting through things and getting rid of clutter. It is about taking stock of who you are and how others see you. It is a chance to redefine yourself, to change expectations and to remember that its never too late to re-capture who you are or to aim for who you want to be.

No one keeps his enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished
with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts, and new visions.
Re-defining helps people who want to make some changes in their lives,
to gain clarity over a particular issue, integrate some more time to achieve this or that into their lives, re-discover long lost ambitions or just do some de-cluttering and have a fresh new focus to gain new perspective and a sense of fulfillment. more...

  MAS Freedom Joins Muslim Delegation Visiting Dr. Sami Al-Arian at Va. Prison

It's Not Too Late to Join MAS Freedom's Judiciary Letter Writing Campaign!

D.C. WASHINGTON, D.C. (MASNET) April 2, 2008 – MAS Freedom (MASF), as the civic and human rights advocacy entity of the Muslim American Society (MAS), joined a delegation of American Muslim groups on Monday for a visit to Dr. Sami Al-Arian, a former Florida professor currently, as of April 1, in day 29 of his third hunger strike in federal detention to the U.S. Government's refusal to uphold its promise for his release.

Al-Arian began refusing food and water on March 3rd to protest a third attempt by prosecutors to compel his testimony in court. He was transferred to a medical facility in North Carolina, but has since been returned to Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va. He is now taking only water and has lost 32 pounds.

In the tradition of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Cesar Chavez - Dr. Al-Arian believes the hunger strike is his only way of protesting the gross miscarriage of justice that he has been subjected to - after being imprisoned for over 5 years despite the U.S. government's repeated failure to convict him before a jury of his peers, and its subsequent failure to abide by agreed upon conditions for his release.
