Afghan Youth Mentoring (AYM) Program

MAS Bay Area launched the Afghan Youth Mentoring (AYM) Program in March, 2025, a vital initiative supporting Afghan refugee youth (ages 15-24) as they navigate new opportunities and challenges in our community. Through mentorship, education, and recreational activities, we provide the tools and encouragement these young individuals need to thrive.

Powerful Stories

Program Progress

Alhamdulilah, on April 6, 2025, the Afghan Youth Mentoring (AYM) team had the blessing of meeting with over 20 Afghan refugee youth at Masjid Al Muhajireen. It was a powerful and moving gathering β€” and thanks to your generous support, we were able to sign up 21 new youth to join the AYM program!

These youth, all of whom arrived in the U.S. after 2021, are still navigating the challenges of resettling in a new country. Many of them come from families with limited resources, and all are seeking connection, guidance, and hope.

Our approach is rooted in relationship building, identity development, and active youth engagement. Below is a summary of activities and programs through July 2025.

Outdoor & Mentorship-Based Activities

  • Hike at Sunol

  • Fun Activity (Bowling)

  • Hajj Reflections with Imam Fuad

  • UFC Watch Party

  • Career Advising with Dr. Ahmed Naguib

  • Hijrah Workshop with Imam Fuad

  • Academic Advising with Hadi Kaddourra

We heard several powerful, emotional stories that reminded us exactly why this work matters:

πŸ•ŠοΈ One father, who came with his seven children, shared how he once had a beautiful life in Afghanistan β€” homes, gardens, and stability. Overnight, everything changed, and they had to flee. Despite starting from scratch here, his warmth and generosity shined through. He kept inviting our team for lunch, offering what little he had with a full heart.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Another father, newly arrived just 3 months ago, is here with three young children who speak no English. He is doing his best to provide, and our team is helping guide them through the early stages of settling in.

πŸ•ŠοΈ We also met two hardworking brothers who arrived with no jobs or connections. Both are skilled plumbers, and we’re actively helping them find employment. (Please reach out if you know of any plumbing opportunities!)
